About Jeff Kershner

From Code Magazine Kid to AI Pioneer

Jeff Kershner

I've been developing software for over 25 years. My passion for coding began in childhood—at age 10, I frequented computer stores copying C code from magazines to build text-based games. Upon acquiring Microsoft Visual C++, I explored WINAPI and MFC, creating calculators and games to share with friends.

Education & Career Pivot

In 1996, I enrolled at SUNY Fredonia for music education. However, a disagreement with my music theory professor about chord nomenclature prompted me to switch majors to Computer Science, a decision that launched my entire career.

Early Career Journey

After graduating in 2000 with degrees in Math and Computer Science, I relocated from Buffalo, NY to Phoenix, AZ with minimal resources. I accepted a $10/hour internship at a game development studio, though I spent three months on business applications rather than game development. This led to positions at other gaming companies where I worked 80-100 hour weeks before the company failed financially.

Professional Experience

My career has included nine months at a AAA game studio in Laguna Beach, five years developing simulation software for government pilot training, and a decade building business intelligence systems at a major domain registrar.

Freelance & Current Work

Relocating to Houston, I freelanced for retail, medical billing, and oil industry clients. I currently serve as Director of Engineering at RadiusAI, deploying AI and computer vision solutions across 1,000+ US retail locations.
